About this book
Love Insurance by Earl Derr Biggers opens with a delightfully audacious premise: a young man walks into Lloyd’s of London to buy a policy that will guarantee his marriage — truly, insurance for the heart. Biggers, best known as the creator of Charlie Chan, turns his razor-sharp comic instincts toward a playful romantic caper set against the manners and institutions of the early 20th century.
The story blends romance, fiction, and light satire as schemes, misunderstandings, and social expectations collide. Biggers skewers the idea that love can be quantified while celebrating the stubbornness of human attachment; the result is a fast-moving, witty narrative filled with sprightly dialogue and comic set pieces. The novel’s period detail—Lloyd’s offices, formal courting rituals, and the era’s insurance culture—lends historical flavor without slowing the jokes or emotional stakes.
Perfect for listeners who enjoy romantic comedies, vintage fiction, and gentle social satire, Love Insurance is an entertaining, breezy listen. Fans of witty dialogue, clever plotting, and the golden age of humorous literature will appreciate Biggers’s charm and timing.
