About this book
Old Coast Road From Boston to Plymouth by Agnes Edwards invites listeners on a luminous 1920s journey along Massachusetts’ South Shore, blending travel narrative and historical insight. Edwards leads you from Dorchester Heights past the Blue Hills through Quincy’s shipyards, the ecclesiastical streets of Hingham, the ledges of Cohasset, Scituate’s shore, Marshfield—home of Daniel Webster—Duxbury, Kingston’s archives, and finally to storied Plymouth.
Written in 1920 and enhanced by period illustrations, this history and travel classic captures the landscape, architecture, maritime trade, and local lore of early 20th-century New England. Edwards’ clear, evocative prose pairs descriptive travelogue with archival curiosities—manuscripts, shipbuilding traditions, colonial remnants—offering cultural context without modern interpretation. Themes of coastal life, memory, and regional identity emerge as she traces the Old Coast Road that once linked these towns.
Ideal for history buffs, New England travelers, and armchair explorers, this audiobook is a vivid companion for anyone curious about coastal Massachusetts, early American communities, and the pleasures of a bygone road trip. Listen for a charming, informative portrait of place that brings past and shoreline vividly to life.
