About this book
Salome en Een Florentijnsch Treurspel by Oscar Wilde drags listeners into a darkly beautiful world of passion, power, and forbidden longing where language becomes both seduction and weapon. These two one-act plays — the mythic, moonlit Salome and the tense, intimate Florentine Tragedy — showcase Wilde’s gift for lush, poetic dialogue and his fascination with desire, jealousy, and the aesthetics of danger.
Set against biblical and Renaissance backdrops, Salome reimagines the infamous princess through decadent symbolism and ritualized theatre, while A Florentine Tragedy exposes volatile domestic passions amidst class and moral tensions. Written during the late 19th century, these works reflect the era’s fin-de-siècle anxieties and the symbolist movement, and historically stirred controversy for their provocative themes and theatrical daring.
This audiobook edition offers an immersive dramatic experience ideal for lovers of classic literature and playwriting, students of drama and Victorian studies, and anyone drawn to richly atmospheric, character-driven storytelling. Listen for Wilde’s razor-sharp wit, haunting imagery, and the electric tension that has kept these short plays compelling on stage and page for over a century.
